It’s a bummer to see bands like St. Paul & The Broken Bones and Sharon Jones (plus her Dap-Kings) pass over the Sunshine State. That won’t be happening this year.
The Clearwater Sea-Blues Festival (Feb. 20-21, Coachman Park) announced its lineup yesterday and while Sunday has some heavy hitters (powerhouse vocalist Nikki Hill and songwriter Beth Hart), it’s Saturday’s agenda that will have fans of next-gen soul music reeling (h/t Tampa Bay Times).
Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings headline in support of 2014 instant classic Give The People What They Want, and another great new soul outfit — St. Paul & The Broken Bones — warm the stage before them. The Bones, led by charismatic, banker-looking frontman Paul Janeway, have been hard at work on a follow-up to their own 2014 LP, Half The City, which peaked at No. 56 on the Billboard 200.
A new album from St. Paul & the Broken Bones is due sometime this year.
General admission for the Clearwater Sea-Blues Fest is free (towels, blankets and chairs are allowed). Advance passes for reserved seating and VIP options go for $25-$130. Details are available at clearwaterseablues.com.
