97X Free For All with Silversun Pickups On the heels of the release of a fourth full-length, Better Nature, Silversun Pickups rolls through town to headline 97X’s first free concert event of 2016, lead single “Nightlift” a fast-paced few minutes that finds the LA alt rock quartet’s hazy ‘90s shoegaze propelled by thumping and grinding basslines, distorted guitar riffs and multi-voice choruses backing up the wailing refrain (“We only want it with the lights out”) along with deep rumbling vocal splices that add an ominous undertone. If you aren’t familiar with the drill, admission to the show is free, but you have to acquire your tickets at participating ticket drop locations, and the final ticket drop was last night. So, the big question is ... how do you get in? Visit 97xonline.com to look for info, or call the station direct at 727-217-9797 (813-221-9797 Hillsborough). (Jannus Live, St. Petersburg)
BBQ Wednesday Acoustic Series with Joe Popp & Lost Axis; THEN France Camp with Luxury Mane, Sonic Graffiti It’s a double billing at New World this Hump Day, with the regularly schedule BBQ Wednesday Acoustic Series slot assumed by Tampa native, NYC-based rocker Joe Popp, who performs with his acoustic guitar-driven project with Shaugn O'Donnell, Lost Axis. Once the free 7 to 9 p.m. performance is finished, the courtyard is cleared for the second show of the night: France Camp, a Minneapolis band that does the whole lo-fi garage-surf-psyche thing with snotty whooping vocals, choppy guitar work and punk-kicking attitude that’ll pair well with warm-up from the Bay area’s own rock-grinding outfits, Sonic Graffiti and Luxury Mane; admission is $8. (New World Brewery, Ybor City)
