For more than three decades, bassist Stu Hamm has defied lowend conventions. Amid playing sideman to the likes of Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, he’s put out the occasional solo albums since 1988 debut full-length Radio Free Albemuth. Inspired by Philip K. Dick’s novel of the same name, Alebmuth demonstrated Hamm’s genre-jumping capabilities in instrumental jazz-fused prog rock that also touched on elements of country and classical music, as well as his slapping and two-handed tapping technique and gift for imitating non-bass sounds ala “Country Music (A Night in Hell)” and his rather fine re-imagining of Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata.” He kicks off his current world tour behind sixth and latest album Book of Lies in Largo, joined by guitarist Alex Skolnick (Testament) and drummer Joel Taylor (Al DiMeola, Allan Holdsworth). 7:30 p.m., Largo Cultural Center, Largo, $19.50-$34.50.
