Live and Local Spotlight: The Bricks & SPoT Ybor Four-Year Anniversary Party

Surfer Blood has already been in town twice in the last year. The West Palm-bred purveyors of salty, noise and scuzz-addled beach pop headlined St. Pete’s Whigfest in February and got the same top billing treatment at downtown Tampa’s Spring Beer Fling a month later. The boys still haven’t partied Skatepark style, though. Frontman John Paul Pitts & co. are in for it this Saturday when they return to play to Ybor City, where The Bricks and SPoT Ybor are celebrating four years on the block by literally shutting it down.

Yep, 14th Street is closed for the soiree, which also includes world music/hip hop collective Gwan Massive, garage rock duo Monarch, instrumental power trio Florida Night Heat, and longtime local favorite DJs Blenda and Mega. Vans will be on hand to give attendees all kinds of free gear, barbeque will be sizzling on the grill, and the Bricks’ innards will play host to the “Four Sight” art show that finds eight artists utilizing 4-by-4-foot squares to honor the eatery and retail space’s anniversary. There’s no cover, but the event is also helping the Suzanne Ciani Brain Cancer Foundation raise money for disease research, so any donations go a long way to help to cause.

Details: The Bricks & SPoT Ybor Four Year Anniversary, Sat., Sept. 13, 4 p.m., 1327 E. Seventh Ave., Ybor City, free admission ($10 suggested donation to Suzanne Ciani Brain Cancer Foundation).
