Dub Thompson, 9 Songs (Dead Oceans)
Dub Thompson is the fresh project of Cali-bred Matt Pulos (guitar) and Evan Laffer (drums) draws on lo-fi indie rock, rocksteady and groovetronica, and cite influences that include Big Black, Can and Kraftwerk. Full album streaming now at Hypemachine. Check the mildly ominous organ-howling drive of "No Time" in the video below.

The Swedish folk duo made up of sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg deliver a third full-length produced by Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, Monsters of Folk).

There's something very Alt-J sounding in the vocal quality of Glass Animals frontman Dave Bayley — but perhaps that's because they're both British and have that velvet brushed timbre. The group was one of the first signings to biggie producer Paul Epworth's Wolf Tone label, the title of their album taken from Bayley's favorite childhood story, William Steig's The Zabajaba Jungle. He describes the sound on his band's debut as "like a backdrop of man-made wilderness..." and it definitely has an exotic percussive touch influenced by, apparently, the New World scenarios found in Apocalypse Now, The Island of Dr Moreau, Heart of Darkness, The African Queen and Mosquito Coast. Quantic is Will Holland, a UK-born, Columbia-based producer and multi-instrumentalist versed on guitar, bass, double bass, piano, organ, sax, accordion and percussion. His latest record draws on elements of soul, funk and jazz along with cumbia, salsa and bossa nova, and combines eclectic live instrumentation with samples. The Chicago-bred prog jam sextet with virtuoso chops has finally formed their own label, and issues their eighth studio album on the imprint. The 11 tracks include a few cuts from the live repertoire recorded for the first time, including "Bridgeless." Shedding the grand production of 2011’s Death By Stereo, the band gets more concise and melodic in their latest. Umphrey's hits Jannus Live on the tour supporting the album Sun., Aug. 31.
