Ty Segall is prolific if anything, so it comes with some surprise that it's taken him six months to announce a follow-up to his 2013 LP Sleeper. Today, the San Francisco-born fuzz rock king (who has actually been busy releasing7-inches and producing for White Fence in the lull between records) announced a brand new full-length, Manipulator, which will see the light on August 26 via Drag City. He's announced a pretty massive tour to go along with it, too.
The nearly three-month jaunt kicks off August 23 in Los Angeles with an appearance at FYF Fest and a four-night stand at Echo. Segall, 27, and his three-piece band (Mikal Cronin, Charlie Moothart and Emily Rose Epstein) includes a stop in Tampa on his schedule in what will surely be a packed Epic Problem on September 12.
A press release talks about "helium-cooled vocals, strangled-neck solos,numbed-and-unplugged discursions, three-quarter quartets, and waves of sparkling acoustics with ominous, Love-ly undertones" along with "torrents of filthy git-grunge and fusing the blackness of Sabbath with the grime and grab-ass of the Stooges and the sweet swinging tones of the Stones" ... but who wants to read about music anyway?
Have a look at an album teaser (complete with Segall as a drag queen who does not have her shit together) along with a tracklist for Manipulator below. Pre-order the album here. Wand and BOTB-winning garage rock duo Jensen Serf Company warm up the September 12 show. Epic Problem is located at 4215 E. Columbus Dr. in Tampa. Doors at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $13-$15.
