Gang Of Four with The New Regime With a warped guitar riff, wonky-fuzzed lowend groove, staccato roiling rhythm and the commanding growl of Allison Mossheart backed by the lower-toned brogue of singer John "Gaoler" Sterry in “England's in my Bones,” Gang of Four proves that even with only one member remaining from the ‘70s era line-up, they can still turn out a compelling single. The UK’s proto post-punk outfit dropped an eighth album this year, What Happens Next, and original guitarist Andy Gill used the recording as an opportunity to change things up a bit and collab with some guests, including the aforementioned songstress who regularly fronts The Thrills and The Dead Weather. Don’t get your hopes up, however; she won’t be joining Gang of Four on their current U.S. tour. (State Theatre, St. Petersburg)
Kansas It’s been a few years since the classic prog rock band behind such radio staples as “Dust in the Wind” and "Carry On Wayward Son" have been to town, and on their return, Kansas is newly repped by German label Inside out and are even closer to releasing a 15th studio album, the first since 2000’s Somewhere to Elsewhere. Not that anyone going to see Kansas is all that interested in hearing new material, even though Kansas is popular enough here to play two nights. This is the first of a Wednesday-Thursday night run, the second date apparently added due to popular demand. (Capitol Theatre, Clearwater)
