Here are a couple concerts happening tonight.
Swans with Little Annie feat. Paul Walfisch Wonderfully abrasive, and still so cutting edge even after spending the last four decades doing everything they can to push the envelope, Michael Gira and his Swans project continue to tiptoe the line between sonic terrorist attack and pure, madman-created genius. You can call it “no wave,”“anti-punk,” or even pure filth, but one thing is undeniable when it comes to Swans, and it’s the innate beauty that can be discovered when your ear holes are getting battered by off-time waves of guitar noise that seem to be competing with the crashing sounds of a drummer gone insane. (State Theatre, St. Petersburg) —Ray Roa
BBQ Wednesday Special Event: Brushfire Stankgrass Naturally, the weirdos in weirdo newgrass-boogie outfit Brushfire Stankgrass hail from Asheville, NC. And naturally, this band is playing the New World, ostensibly to Steve Bird’s overwhelming delight. And we can’t find a damn thing wrong with that. Stop by after a long mid-week workday, pour a couple of fine beers on top of a mound of smoked barbecue goodness, then sit back and be entertained. There are worse ways to spend a Wednesday evening, for sure. (New World Brewery, Ybor City) —Scott Harrell
ALSO TONIGHT
The Australian Bee Gees Capitol Theatre, Clearwater
