Bleachers with Joywave and Night Terrors Of 1927 Until last February, Bleachers was kept secret. Guitarist Jack Antonoff of indie-pop group Fun broke the news about his solo project via the release of anthemic hit, “I Wanna Get Better,” the first single off Bleachers debut LP, Strange Desire, which dropped later that year. The album doesn’t stray too far from Fun’s catchy iconic sound, though with less Queen/arena rock overtones. It peaked at No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative Albums charts. His current “Come Alive!” tour kicked off in Hawaii and has blazed a trail across the U.S., with warm-up from Joywave, a five-man grooving electro-rock band based out of New York (RIYL: Two Door Cinema Club and MGMT) and LA pop-rock duo Night Terrors of 1927, which, according to Entertainment Weekly, “begs comparison to The Killers.”(State Theatre, St. Petersburg) —Adam Hardy
Mutilation Rites with Mantar If you couldn’t tell by the foul name (and you can’t see the oozing font), Mutilation Rites makes black, doomful metal. The vocals are guttural shrieks or more vomitous bursts of wretchedness that wheel and climb over ominous, heavily distorted dual guitar riffs and solos, growling and pounding basslines, and hard-thrashing drumbeats that vary from more deliberate assails to up-tempo charges. The NYC trio is signed to Prosthetic Records and issued their sophomore full-length, Harbinger, last summer. This tour finds German outfit Mantar filling out the bill with more punk-crusted deathtones. (Local 662, St. Petersburg) —Leilani Polk
