Andrew W.K. with Wolf-Face While he hasn’t outgrown the long-haired party dude persona that brought him fame in 2001 with debut LP I Get Wet, and hasn’t released much new material since 2009 (if we’re counting his album of solo piano improvisations), Andrew W.K. has maintained an active performing career, bringing his gung-ho attitude and full body spasms to the motivational speaking world while delivering his usual cheeky, balls-out rock n’ roll maelstrom on dates like this one, part of a mini Florida tour leading up to his launch on the ShipRocked Cruise out of Miami (Limp Bizkit headlines). Sorry, no pizza pre-launch party here, but you can meet Phillip Crandall, a writer with local ties who’ll be on site hawking and signing copies of his 33 1/3 book about I Get Wet. Click HERE for more info on said book. (State Theatre, St. Petersburg)
Luxury Mane Move to the City Show The indie psych-shoegaze rock band throws a send-off show for departing bassist/singer Jason Schultz, but rather than look at the move as Luxury Mane losing a member, “Jason is expanding his parameters as a human and ours as a band. We're are very proud to say that he will be relocating to Brooklyn in February to start the NYC chapter of Luxury Mane.” Selectric warms the standing-room stage with reverb-drenched heavy-grooving psych-blues.
