He’s made a hell of a lot of friends and supporters along the way, and we suspect we’ll see plenty of them, both onstage and in the crowd, at this release party for Hurricane Lullabies. The Appleseed Collective Week in and week out, the Dunedin Brewery continues to make a case for why they are Pinellas County’s best reason to go out and see live music. On Thursday, they welcome this Michigan-based troupe of Americana loving gypsy-punk roots-rockers. Frontman Andrew Brown has said that his ideal band would sound like the “bizarre love child of Tom Waits, Django Reinhardt and the Punch Brothers.” Collective songs like “The Periwinkle Blues” are evidence that they’re well on their way to achieving that dream. Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit frontwoman Louise Chicoine has described her band’s latest album, last year’s Holyoke, as a “nature album.” The eight-piece collection of songs doesn’t get all preachy about saving the planet, though. Instead, it uses songs like “Birthjerk,”“Moths,” and “VolcanoLogico” and Rabbit Rabbit’s disjointed, squealing art-rock to give life to all the different tenets of our own human nature. St. Pete alt-waltz outfit DieAlps! and Tampa experimental noise/jazz duo Nude Tayne open the show. (The Fuzz Factory, Gulfport) —RR
Raekwon & Ghostface Killah Those hoping for a Wu-Tang tour should consider the fact that the Staten Island hip-hop kings released just one physical copy of their latest album. Fans should instead feel lucky to be settling for an appearance by a pair of the Wu’s greatest — Raekwon and Ghostface Killah. The duo’s individual output is enough to make for a solid hip-hop show on their own, but the potential for them to go onstage and collaborate on Ruff Endz’“No More” or their own take on the Wu’s “C.R.E.A.M.” make this the hip-hop show to kick off the new year.
