There was a line of people stretched around the block trying to get into Snarky Puppy’s sold-out Crowbar show last year. This time around, the Brooklyn instrumental funk-jazz fusionists – a rotating ensemble of musicians on guitar, bass, keys, brass and percussion who regularly play with the likes of Erykah Badu, Justin Timberlake, Snoop Dogg and others – graduate to a bigger venue. Their song with Lalah Hathaway “Something,” won Snarky Puppy a Grammy for Best R&B Performance and earned them a contract with Impulse! Records to release Sylva, a forthcoming live DVD/album featuring highlights from a three-night run in the Netherlands with the Metropole Orchestra. The Motet opens on their current tour.
Mon., Jan. 5, 7:30 p.m., State Theatre, St. Petersburg, $28.
