CL music editor Leilani Polk has a nice smattering of live music New Year's Eve choices for you today, but that doesn't mean we're not going to ask you the age old question: "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?"
Thankfully, we've got a local music connection to make the inquiry sound all kinds of pretty.
The recording comes courtesy of a pair of New Granada Records acts — Tampa's Rec Center and Raleigh songwriter Tracy Shedd— who were rehearsing at New World Brewery on December 26. They would take the stage later that night as part of the local record label's 20-year anniversary, but this iPhone-recorded cover is candid and the epitome of charming.
It finds Rec Center frontwoman Susie Richardson-Ulrey, guitarist Michael Waksman, and Shedd working through the Frank Loesser-penned classic and captures the sounds of chit chat plus cars and trolleys clamoring by. The bubbling of New World's courtyard water fountain even makes a cameo.
Have a listen below, and don't forget to catch a cab tonight. We'll see you on the other side of midnight.
