Let’s just go ahead and file this thing directly right under “WTF is happening right now?” After mostly shunning the Tampa Bay area for the last half decade, Brooklyn’s Parquet Courts have finally announced a local date on January 31 — at the American Legion.
Yes, you read that correctly. They’ve conquered late night television, been adorned with praise from nearly every music magazine and internet blog with half a brain, and the boys — Andrew and Max Savage, Austin Brown, and Sean Yeaton — are gonna go ahead and celebrate by booking a show at that Seminole Heights neighborhood bar located at 6918 N. Florida Ave. The announcement comes as the band sandwiches a month-long European tour between two east coast dates before kicking off a month-long campaign to start the new year.
The Tampa date happens at, by far, the smallest venue of the band's Florida swing, but we’re not complaining. The Legion has been one our favorite spots to grab a cheap drink for a while now, and we’re always up for a rowdy show ... but it’s gonna get nuts in there.
What’s more is that a new album (Content Nausea, recorded under the “Parkay Quarts” moniker) is now available for streaming a week in advance of its online release date. The record — described as “something between an EP and LP” in a recent press release — was recorded, mixed and mastered on a 4-track tape machine all within a matter of two weeks. You can hear the dozen fruits of Parkay Quarts’ labor below, and pre-order physical formats here.
We’re still waiting to hear back from the Legion about ticket prices and on sale dates, but you might as well clear half an hour off your schedule and press play on Content Nausea below.
UPDATE: The show will be held at the Legion's hall (capacity 229) and not the pub. Tampa's own Merchandise and Gainesville rock trio Soda will open the show. Tickets are $12-$15 and available here.
