Two noteworthy shows in Ybor City taking place on this Wed., Nov. 5...
First Aid Kit with Samantha Crain Swedish folk duo First Aid Kit is sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg, their unique, lower-toned vocal harmonies carrying a vintage quality not unlike the lushly orchestrated roots-folk they craft in songs like the rambling pretty Western-tinged “My Silver Lining” off Stay Gold. Produced by Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, Monsters of Folk), the duo’s 2014 third LP has been generating quite the heavy critical buzz and scaled to the Top 10 of three U.S. Billboard charts. 6 p.m. doors, 8 p.m. show, The Ritz Ybor, Ybor City, $20 (all ages). Gringo Star with Wake Up, Ark Atlanta-bred Gringo Star are almost like regulars, but their acid-washed, retro rock sounds are always welcome, especially after issuing such a tasty (and nationally-buzzed about) 2013 full-length, Floating Out To See. Band leaders and ever-collaborating brothers Pete and Nick Furgiuele trade-off or harmonize slurry Byrds-evocative vocals and are usually backed by a drummer on tour, while trading between guitar, bass and keys. For fans of Dr. Dog and any new indie rock that sounds vaguely old. Gringo Star makes an in-store appearance at Mojo Books & Records at 4:30 p.m. before playing this nighttime set in Ybor. 8 p.m., New World Brewery, Ybor City, $10 (21+).
