Complete breakdown below...Joey Bada$$ Every rapper has a bravado track or two and Joey Bada$$ is no different in that respect as “Christ Conscious”– the latest single from his forthcoming studio debut, B4.DA.$$– reveals. The 19-year-old indie hip hop Brooklynite stands out with his knack for pairing street slang and nastiness with a higher level of consciousness –“Always drop hot shit, Toroidal Flow keep constant”– and complete transparency about his use of weed and psychedelics to put him in the right headspace. (In “Snakes” off his 1999 mixtape, Joey claims, “I passed the dutch to the left and it started to make sense / It's funny how I see it more straight when I'm bent.") Zappaween with Bogus Pomp The one time I was ever told to ‘sit the fuck down like everyone else here,’ it was seeing Bogus Pomp at the Skipperdome, and the offended party was a long-haired hippie who had about two decades on me. My point? People take their Frank Zappa very, very seriously, and are just as devoted to the Bay area’s most renown (only) tribute act playing his music – so just remember that when you stand in anyone’s sightlines. While guitar shredder Jerry Outlaw and his band of instrumentally choppy miscreants won’t be joined by a full orchestra ala last month’s Palladium presentation, they’ll likely be playing more of Zappa’s dark and nasty material for the annual Zappaween bash. Poetry n’ Lotion Halloween Bash Answer: Q Lazarus, “Goodbye Horses.” Question: What song would I like to see PNL do a post-jazz post-metal brass-blasted instrumental cover of? (“It puts the lotion in the basket.”) I’m announcing this right here and now: if they learn it, I will dance like Buffalo Bill to it (tuck not included). In reality, the quintet will likely play various originals along with select covers from their full-album repertoire (Ozzy, Devo, Rocky Horror, Beatles). New Kingston with Freelow, Oceanstone A bonafide family band, Brooklyn foursome New Kingston is made up of Panton brothers Tahir, Courtney Jr. and Steve with papa bear Courtney Sr. aka Faddah P on bass. Their union of reggae, R&B and hip hop features velvety three-part islands-accented vocal harmonies broken up by staccato-rapped and toasted verses. (Local 662, St. Petersburg)
Bloody Punk Rock Covers Bash with Mosquito Teeth, Broseph Skalin, Hellbent, Boney Fiend, Unoriginal Basturds Legendary punk acts Leftover Crack, Rancid, Minor Threat, The Misfits and Ramones get the cover treatment by local rockers during this Fubar Halloween party; a costume contest includes prizes for the most original, sexiest, goriest and best of show categories. St. Pete Noise Fest The seventh annual fest that celebrates all things loud and idiosyncratic falls on Halloween weekend this year, a perfect time to see performers like Vasectomy Party, Intellectual Dry Heave, Human Fluid Rot, Breakdancing Ronald Reagan, DC9V and Novasak stretch far beyond traditional instrumentation with sometimes intriguing, sometimes bizarre and sometimes downright abrasive results.
