This week, WUSF Public Media launches a new public jazz radio show and concert videocast series, Jazz Night in America. The weekly one-hour radio program is hosted by bassist Christian McBride and airs Saturdays from 8 to 9 p.m. on WUSF-89.7 FM. The videocast is a collaboration between NPR Music, Jazz at Lincoln Center and WBGO that spotlights noteworthy concerts and offers background and history about how these concerts came about.
“Jazz Night in America brings our audience the best jazz performances from venues throughout the country, and tells the stories behind this fascinating music," Jazz Director for WUSF Public Media Bob Seymour commented in the release. "And we couldn’t have a better host than Christian McBride, one of the brightest stars in the jazz world. The combination of this great hour on the radio every Saturday, with the beautifully-produced webcasts of concert recordings, will bring this music home to our listeners in wonderful new ways every week.”
The season of signature concert videocasts kicks off tonight, Wed., Oct. 29, and features highlights from Blue Note At 75, The Concert, filmed at the Concert Hall of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and honoring the 75th anniversary of iconic jazz label Blue Note Records with performances by the likes of Norah Jones, Lou Donaldson, Jason Moran and Robert Glasper among others.
