A few shows for your Tuesday live music planning...
Hail The Sun with Stolas, Icarus The Owl, Samurai Shotgun, Rising Down A few acts repped by Blue Swan Records – the label owned by Will Swan of Dance Gavin Dance – are featured on this multi-act tour headed up by post-hardcore/prog outfit Hail to the Sun, from Chico, Calif., hyping up a forthcoming LP, Wake (out Sept. 23 on); intriguing first single “Missed Injections” varies from blasts of technical rock driven by guitar shreds and high-pitched screams and wails to sublimely melodic interludes with more delicate vocal serenades before devolving back to galloping breakdowns with aggressive tempo-changing momentum. Stolas delivers on thrashing experimental heaviness interspersed with more eerie and contemplative sonic fractures. Also featured: Portland’s pop-punk-informed prog rockers Icarus the Owl, and a few locals, alt rock outfit Rising Down and prog/post hip-hoppers Samurai Shotgun. All Good Tuesdays happens as planned afterwards. (Crowbar, Ybor City)
Mad Caddies with illScarlett A venerable West Coast act with a ska-punk sound calling on elements of pop, reggae and even Latin music and Dixieland jazz as brightened up by a two-piece horn section (trumpet and trombone); latest full-length White Rice is the septet’s first fresh output in seven years, issued on Fat Wreck Chords this past May. (Orpheum, Ybor City)
