Dallas Bull The boot-scooting honky tonk is Tampa Bay’s one-stop shop for country music, founded more than three decades ago but only in its current 34,000-square-foot digs since 2006. A laundry list of drawling stars have played its stage, both fresh faces and vets, and Dallas Bull has deep-rooted ties with Charlie Daniels, who throws an annual fundraiser at the Bull for his primary charity, Angelus House, a home for the severely handicapped. 3322 U.S. 301 N., Tampa, 813-987-2855, dallasbull.com

Ella’s Americana Folk Art Cafe Seminole Heights’ haven for yuppie hobnobbing, acclaimed fusion cuisine and fine art made from found objects is also a local hangout for intimate live shows on Friday nights and Sunday afternoons (during its Soul Food Sundays). A range of genres can be enjoyed, everything from rootsy Americana acts to jazz to bluegrass and loud, experimental rockers. Wax Wednesdays is a great DJ night that features alternating employees taking turns at the tables, including WMNF’s Saturday Asylum host Scott Imrich, DJ Steph Money (Stephanie Powers), owner Ernie Locke and DJ BCR (Brian Repetto). MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheater The only outdoor concert venue of its size (20,000-cap) in the area, the amphitheater at the Florida State Fairgrounds has seen its name change from one ludicrous mouthful to another with each sponsor.
