It was a pretty sweet achievement for local music when St. Pete instrumental post-metal quintet Set And Setting signed with Los Angeles-based metal imprint Prosthetic Records. It was even sweeter to see the boys announce a tour with cult favorites Mouth Of The Architect, but now things are really getting heavy.

Yesterday, the BOTB-winning band gave fans a first taste of their new album, A Vivid Memory, which is due on September 2. While last week's minute long teaser video found Set And Setting tracking the album, today's new video is a full stream of the album's lead single, "Coping."

"The song is driving, one of our more straight-forward songs on the album," guitarist Shane Handal wrote in a message to CL. "There's a lot of variety on this track, which is a good representation of the variety on the album."

Memory was recorded at Pinecrust Studios in Miami with Ryan Haft (Beach Day, Torche, Holly Hunt), and mastered by Nick Zampiello (Jesse Dee, Bear Hands, Shroud Eater) at New Alliance East Mastering in Boston. Handal, 26, also told CL that he feels the band — despite a minor lineup change — has found their true sound.

"Our songwriting has matured, the riffs are heavier, more conscious, and more emotional, we as musicians play better together, our ideas are more clear," he wrote. "The high's are higher and the low's are lower. To me it's such a natural and positive progression from our first album."

"Coping" certainly feels like a big step for the band, and you can listen to the single and check out the album's artwork (by St. Pete artist Emily Miller) below. Pre-orders are happening now, and the band have a couple weeks off before taking off on a 13-date Southern U.S. tour. They stop in Ybor City on August 23 to take part in the massive lineup for Southern Darkness Fest. Check out the full tour docket below.
