One of my earliest fond memories of MTV, back when the station actually played videos on the reg, was getting down while watching Lionel Richie’s “All Night Long.” I mimicked the dancing (my arsenal of moves can likely be traced back to this video), I sang along (loudest to “Come join our party, see how we play!”), I jumped on the bed during the African-tribal breakdown. I think I dug him because he seemed kid-friendly (see: “Dancing on the Ceiling”), and I still have a soft spot in my heart for his soul-pop-R&B-lite persuasions. His more profuse romantic material (“Endless Love,”“Truly,”“Hello,”“Say You, Say Me,”“Stuck on You”) plucks my nostalgia strings, too, though only if it catches me emotionally unawares. He hits the road for the first extended tour in more than a decade on his “All the Hits All Night Long” tour, joined by neo-soul/funk-hop maker, CeeLo Green. A few videos after the jump, one old, one brand new... 7:30 p.m., MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheater, Tampa.
