If these Weezer song teasers are torture, then you should see the band at The Trop tonight

Weezer's last album of new songs, 2010's Hurley, was...well...just kinda "ehh," but frontman Rivers Cuomo & co. are lucky that the band's precedents are enough to overcome any of the mediocre material they put out after a trio of nerd-rock, cardigan-wearing classics (1994's "Blue Album,"Pinkerton in '96, and the "Green Album" in 2001). The band is hard at work on their ninth full-length, and they've been using Wednesdays (#WeezerWednesday if you're of the hashtag set) to torture fans with less-than-a-minute long samples of from the fruits of their labor.

This week found fans getting a taste of "Ain't Got Nobody," and if the 40-second snippet is any indication, the boys might be taking another step back towards golden-era Weezer. Other clips like "The Waste Land" and more bluntly titled "=w= 2,""=w= 3," and "=w= 4" are kind of all over the place, so we're not quite making claims to a real return to form for the band quite yet.

Weezer will make their Tropicana Field debut today, June 7, however, after Tampa Bay's beloved Rays take the field against the Seattle Mariners. Tickets to the game start at $22 and first pitch happens at 4:10 p.m. EDT. More information is available here. CL's Cody Smith offers his thoughts on Weezer at The Trop here, and you can check out the whole of "#WeezerWednesday" offerings for yourself below.
