The Casket Girls' sophomore album should come with a warning label. The highly addictive effort clocks in at just over 40 minutes, but every moment of True Love Kills the Fairy Tale feels like a big, sensual, fuzzed-out hug powered by bombastic drum loops and sexy, swirling synths that don't necessarily make you want to dance but do make you wanna turn down the blinds, occupy the bed and let the sun peek through the cracks while you're left to explore the sheets.
It's almost sensory overload, and the LP could use an ambient instrumental break somewhere in the middle, but the girls — Phaedra & Elsa Greene — along with bandmates Ryan Graveface and TW Walsh seem content to massage your sound-loving chakras until you reach some kind of eargasm. Much like the sensation you get when the NyQuil doesn't put you to sleep (or runner's high after a pre-dawn jog if you're of the healthy crowd), True Love (released last month via Savannah, Ga. boutique label Graveface Records) leaves you in a state of heightened awareness, ready and willing to deal with whatever your subconscious or the world at large is about to drop into your lap.
The LP's third track, "Chemical Dizzy," embodies exactly what the album stands for, and the video (comprised of spliced up, fan-submitted clips) is a fantastic visual compliment. Have a look below, then do yourself a favor and experience the album through some headphones.
The girls are currently on tour (recouping losses from a February car accident that totaled their touring vehicle), and they stop at Crowbar (1812 N. 17th St., Ybor City) on Wed., March 19.
