The Grecian Urns announce reunion show, re-release debut LP

It's been a long time since we've heard from The Grecian Urns. The beloved folk-pop outfit always had a sporadic performance schedule thanks to school schedules, but they ended a nearly five-year run in December of 2010 with an official farewell show at New World Brewery, leaving behind one of the best albums Tampa Bay has ever produced, LOVEDREAM, and spawning a couple acts featuring former Urns members and similarly sunny sounds (The Sun Society, The Happiness Machine).

It's time to get nostalgic as the stars have aligned for a one-off reunion show at the Local 662 in St. Petersburg this May.

"About once every few months since breaking up, the Urns start talking about getting back together for a reunion show. But there's always been obstacles," frontman Bryce McGuire told CL. "I think something finally just snapped. We said, 'Screw it. We're going to do this no matter what.'"

Response on social media has been predictably positive — the Urns were BOTB winners for "Best Folk/Pop" in 2010 — but the show announcement got even sweeter when St. Pete-based boutique record label Viva La Records announced the limited edition cassette re-release of the Urns' sole full-length, LOVEDREAM. A limited number will be available at the show and any leftovers distributed via Viva's online storefront.

The Grecian Urns converge on The Local 662 (662 Central Ave., downtown St. Petersburg) on Sat. May 31, with warm-up support from St. Pete's own Alexander & The Grapes. Cover is TBD, and doors open at 9 p.m. More info on the show is available on Facebook.
