This past October, local resident and music scenester Nathan Cicle was riding his scooter down Central Avenue in St. Petersburg when he encountered a few pedestrians crossing the street. One stopped at the median, but the other kept going and strode right into Cicle's path. Cicle swerved to avoid her, lost control of his scooter and flew off it, slamming his (un-helmeted) head into the pavement and sustaining critical head trauma. Nathan spent weeks in the intensive care unit at Bayfront hospital, and is currently being nursed back to health by his sister, Shannon Cicle, at her St. Pete home. He's doing much better, but still needs essential medical care and rehabilitative therapy, doesn't have health insurance and can't put his recovery on hold while waiting to find out how much help will be offered by public assistance healthcare programs.
[jump]To help raise funds for therapy and doctors appointments as well as lighten some of the cost associated with everyday living expenses (neither Nathan nor his sister can work while he needs constant care), Shannon has organized a benefit party that takes place tonight at The Bends. The party features live performances by Best of the Bay-winning post-rock/post-metal outfit set and setting (their only show until March or April), as well as a solo set by Russ Van Cleave (of The Tim Version) and spins by resident fave DJ Sugar Bear.
Also on tap for the night: live screen printing by Adam Steadman, a raffle with prizes (gift certificates from Skatepark of Tampa, Star Booty, The Bricks, and more), and an art sale with works donated by Tom Kiernan (Mean Machine Tattoos), Daniel Morgan, Carises Horn and others.
