Fourteen years after its founding, Record Store Day (RSD) has gone fully mainstream (this year’s ambassador is Taylor Swift), and while folks like Jack White have sounded the alarm on a potential catastrophe for indie artists and labels looking to compete with majors as far as getting records pressed, there’s still never, ever, been a better time to be a year-long supporter of your local record store. This weekend, shops across the Bay area open early (8 a.m. at some places, with Daddy Kool hosting breakfast food trucks at 7 a.m.) for the international holiday, ready to sling RSD exclusives, sales and giveaways.
