Dogs On Acid with Year Of Glad Philly outfit Dogs on Acid draws clear influence from the ‘90s with hooky, jangly punk and college rock sounds brightened by power-pop rays, coated in reverb haze and finished with occasional discordance. If early Weezer, Archers of Loaf and Pavement are favored jams in your music library, this show’s for you. (Epic Problem, Tampa)
Tory Lanez with Boogie A youthful Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter and producer following in the footsteps of fellow countryman Drake who’s put out 13 mixtapes in his short career, Tory Lanez found a recent Billboard 100 charter in sexy slow jam “Say It,” the title track off his forthcoming debut on Interscope, its stripped-back bass-heavy production featuring a sample of Brownstone’s “If You Love Me” spliced into a soulful backing chorus that Bolster’s Lanez’s trade-off between lightly effected croons and rhyme flows. (Orpheum, Ybor City)
BBQ Wednesday Acoustic Series: Possessed By Paul James with Jeremy Schantz & Dan Padilla The pseudonym of Texas punk-roots one-man show Konrad Wert, Possessed By Paul James is named in tribute to his late grandfather Paul, and his father, James. Paste magazine wrote, "whether Wert is percussively stomping on an old wooden box, sawing a dusty fiddle, picking a banjo, or yelping a song as his head bobs and weaves from a seated position, fans are never under the impression they are seeing and hearing something of this earthly realm. The mix of roots and emotional electricity at a Possessed by Paul James show is akin to a live electric socket missing its cover as stripped wires spark with flickers of enthralling danger." (New World Brewery, Ybor City)
