Charles Neville & Gent Treadly The second eldest Neville Brother, Charles, blows a mean saxophone and has broad musical palette likely enhanced during the time he spent living away from his native New Orleans, in New York, Florida, Tennessee and even Oregon. He’s recently been touring with NYC outfit Gent Treadly, formed in 1994 by bassist Greg Koerner (sometimes of Dark Star Orchestra) and pushing jammy rock dosed healthily in funk, jazz, folk and blues hues. (Dunedin Brewery, Dunedin)
Fortunate Youth with Stranger, Sensamotion If there’s one thing you can count on, it’s death, taxes and reggae rock shows at Jannus Live. Leaning more to authentic roots and trippy-wet dub sounds is LA’s posi-vibing ganj-friendly indie act Fortunate Youth. The sextet earned a spot on the Grammy shortlist for 2013 full-length It’s All a Jam and their third outing, this year’s Don’t Think Twice, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Reggae Albums charts. (Jannus Live, St. Petersburg)
Bertie Higgins and The Band of Pirates with Rob Falsini Higgins is a resident of Tarpon Springs and the singer-songwriter behind such soft rocking hits as schmaltzy amorous ballad “Key Largo,” though recent years has seen him segueing into island and pirate-themed material. (Skipper's Smokehouse, Tampa)
Ol’ Dirty Sundays with Statik Selektah Boston’s ShowOff Records founder Statik Selektah has been a heavy-hitting DJ and producer in East Coast hip-hop for nearly two decades, releasing a surplus of highly-acclaimed albums and mixtapes, as well as having his own radio show at various stations across the country; currently, it’s Thursday nights on Eminem’s Shade 45 XM/Sirius radio station. Statik is also known for his versatility, and the diverse roster of artists he’s worked with encompasses KRS One, Mick Jenkins, Freddie Gibbs and the late Sean Price. Earlier this summer, he dropped his seventh and possibly final studio album, aptly titled Lucky 7, to favorable reviews. He headlines the latest edition of ODS and turns the party out with decks support from resident DJs Casper and LeSage. (Crowbar, Ybor City) –Andrea McCray
