A look at some concerts happening this Thurs., Oct. 15.

BoyToy with Funny Bunny, Luxury Mane, DJ Tortilla Punx Mixing modern punk vigor and garage crunch with a distinctive ‘90s alt rock tint, Brooklyn trio BoyToy is powered by femme guitarists/singers Saara Untracht-Oakner and Glenn Van Dyke with strong back-beat support from drummer Matty Beans, a Florida native who also pits his deeper masculine harmonies against their high-toned calls and snotty commands, and delivers the occasional offhand lead. The trio is on tour behind sunny upbeat debut LP Grackle, just released a few weeks ago via PaperCup Music. With local support in a few Best of the Bay-winning locals – post-disco threesome Funny Bunny and psych-haze rockers Luxury Mane – this should make for a great launch into the weekend. (New World Brewery, Ybor City)

Black Tide with Exotype, Murder F.M., Breathing Theory Contributing to South Florida’s heavy metal cred, Black Tide has been active since frontman Gabriel Garcia was a mere 11 years old and was signed to Interscope by the time he hit 15. He’s been through multiple lineup changes as his band’s sound has gone from old school thrash and speed sounds to the more inclusive mix of fast, melodic, and heavy in third full-length Chasing Shadows, which drops the day after this show (tomorrow). Exotype brings churning electro-metal crush to the evening’s bill while Murder FM channels Marilyn Manson with dark industrial screech and moan. (Brass Mug, Tampa)

The Winery Dogs with Kicking Harold Prog-hard rock group The Winery Dogs is made up of Richie Kotzen (Poison, Mr. Big) on lead vocals, Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy and bassist Billy Sheehan (Stevie Vai, Mr. Big), who hit town behind second LP Hot Streak. According to Kotzens in a recent Blabbermouth.net interview, “We have this element to us that kind of comes from this crazy, 'shreddy' kind of over-the-top playing, but we also love songs that you can actually sing and that have melodies … My favorite singers were all the R&B guys, so that is rooted in there as well.” (State Theatre, St. Petersburg)
