Baltimore's Thrushes dropped their first full-length in five years and third overall, Exposing Seas, via New Granada Records this past Friday, and this swirly breezy track reflects the band's vaguely '90s-hued rock and shoegaze-y atmospherics. According to dulcet-toned lead singer Anna Connor, the album shows Thrushes growth as a band. "We worked so hard over the past few years to create songs that were larger and louder than before without losing the ethereal mood ... a lot of the songs have a dark feel, or a hint of longing. I guess that's just where I end up when i write even if the words aren't autobiographical."The official album release show in Tampa is held Sat., Oct. 10, at New World Brewery. Video below.
The Cactus Channel feat. Chet Faker, "Kill the Doubt,""Sleeping Alone"
Funk-soul outfit The Cactus Channel collabed with fellow Aussie native/ARIA-winning electro-hop artist Chet Faker on a few tracks for a 7" that is currently available in digital formats via HopeStreet Recordings/ Downtown Records. The recording find Faker pitting his silky falsetto-reaching intones and lower-timbered croons against The Cactus Channel’s dramatic, horns-swept mix of Motown-hued soul jives and funk grooves; "Kill the Doubt" is a stealthy jam that is one part sinister, one part pleading, while "Sleeping Alone" is slower-paced, blues-vibing number made for late night brooding. Both are included below; both are worthy of a listen.
Jacuzzi Boys, "Sun" video
Miami's own scuzzy fuzzy surf-garage outfit is finally getting ready to unleash a new recording that finds their frenetic energy fully intact. This is the latest single off the Happy Damage EP, which was recorded at Torche Studios in Miami with Jonathan Nuñez (of Torche) and is due to hit this Fri., Sept. 25, via the Jacuzzi Boys' own MAG MAG imprint. Prefuse 73, "Still Pretending" video
Producer Scott Herren's latest output as Prefuse 73 includes a recent trilogy of releases (two EPs, Forsyth Gardens and Every Color of Darkness, and an LP, Rivington Não Rio) that pay tribute to his neighborhood in NYC. Adult Swim's Lilfuchs created this eye-popping animated video for the track "Still Pretending" (off Forsyth Gardens) that is intended to capture the sleepless energy of his 'hood.
