Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival brings more than 80 bands to South Florida

Looks like South Florida will welcome another first-time music festival this spring. Announced earlier today, Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival will make its debut “on a magical site near Florida’s Lake Okeechobee” from March 4 to 6, 2016, according to a press release.

Specific artists will be announced in the next four weeks or so, but organizers promise more than 80 acts performing across five different stages. If their credentials are any indication, the team behind the fest, Soundslinger LLC, could have something pretty substantial up their sleeves. According to the release, Soundslinger is made up of "all-star concert promoters and producers with credits spanning Manchester, Tenn.'s Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival and San Francisco, Ca.'s Outside Lands to Shanghai, China's STORM Electronic Music Festival and countless other shows around the globe.” (Okeechobee co-producer Paul Peck was an employee of Superfly for 13 years and was part of the group that helped launch and produce Bonnaroo and Outside Lands; he was also the creative force behind SuperJams.)

Much like Bonnaroo, this will be a bring-your-tent type affair at Florida’s Sunshine Grove, an area home to more than 800 acres of “pristine grasslands, clear lakes, and exotic tropical woodlands” (or humid, swampy misery depending on your outlook).

Either way, there will be plenty to keep you busy besides the heat including an all-hours electronic music stage, once-in-a-lifetime artist collaborations, a lakeside swimming beach bar, food, craft beer and, of course, more TBA soon.
