It's the live music breakdown for this Sun., Sept. 13.

Unleash The Archers with Hibria, Archangel
Joke about polite Canadians all you want, but Victoria, BC’s female-fronted Unleash The Archers is anything but — just check out the quintet’s Mad Max-inspired video for “Tonight We Ride.” The group plies a tech-y fusion of melodic power metal and death-tinged thrash, and is tight as hell. Support on this Ybor show comes courtesy of Brazilian speed-metal outfit Hibria (which cites classic New Wave of British Heavy Metal icons like Judas Priest as influences) and genre-agnostic hometown act Archangel. (Orpheum, Ybor City)

Van Halen I once got into an argument with a friend of mine over whether or not legendary Southern California party band Van Halen qualified as metal. I said no; he said yes, and wrote a mathematical proof to bolster his point. It was logical, well-reasoned and hilarious, but I still think of VH as a hard-rock band, embodying all the immaturity, debauchery and obsession with sex that genre implies, even more than four decades later. (MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheater, Tampa)

Richard Shindell Singer-songwriter Shindell has been a fixture and favorite on the contemporary folk scene since the early ‘90s, and received a serious boost toward the end of that decade when Joan Baez recorded a few of his songs and took him on tour. Shindell is known for his melancholic and melodic voice; his best-loved tune is probably “Are You Happy Now?”, about a Halloween breakup — you’ve doubtless heard it on WMNF at some point. (Craftsman House, St. Petersburg)
