Three diverse shows happening in the Tampa Bay area on this night. Take a look at the breakdown below...

Black Pussy with Ape Machine, Spar, Cave of Swimmers
Look up “Black Pussy” on the internet and you’re liable to find all manner of sleazy porn sites. Add “band” to your search, and discover how a group of white dudes from Portland pushing cock-rocking heavy metal with stoner and psychedelic qualities, big fat guitar riffs, and Ozzy reminiscent vocals are stirring up all kinds of controversy because of their name. One PFLAG rep called it “a passive advertisement for violence,” and a petition was even circulated prompting the quartet to change their name or face venue boycotts. The name has obviously remained the same, though a few sentences addressing the matter was added to their FB bio: “Black Pussy does not condone or endorse any sexism, racism, ageism, violence, or any other douchebaggery that has been spoiling the party since the party started. If you are offended by the band's name, please refer to the following video.” (The video is a bit by comedian Dough Stanhope about the silliness of being offended by words.) Black Pussy has a new EP out, Where the Eagle Flies, and this tour behind it features national support from fellow Portland area vintage-hued hard rock purveyors Ape Machine. (New World Brewery, Ybor City)

Layzie Bone He’s best known for his membership in Grammy-winning Bone Thugs-N-Harmony but the Cleveland rapper otherwise known as Steve Howse (who’s also the uncle of up-and-coming hip hop talent Dizzy Wright) has some impressive solo output, with seven LPs to his credit and an eighth (Perfect Timing) that prompted him to take a break from Bone Thugs so he could focus on it fully. Newish single “I Hustle” finds him spitting quicksilver verses and singing tuneful refrains about his relentless work habits. The hype tour in advance of the album’s TBA release stops through Fubar, an impressively big talent for such a small venue. A sell-out is entirely possible, if not fated. (Fubar, St. Petersburg)

Rock the Park with UNRB, Casey Conroy, Black & Tenn The monthly free outdoor concert series welcome September with three different sonic flavors: ska-punk fusion (UNRB), pretty pop-hued singer-songwriter fare with light bite (Casey Conroy), and swaying reggae rock (Black & Tenn, made up of members from Tribal Style). (Curtis Hixon Park, Tampa)

ALSO TONIGHT
