Motion City Soundtrack 10-Year Anniversary Tour with The Spill Canvas, Sorority Noise Minneapolis quintet Motion City Soundtrack arrived on the punk scene with 2003’s I Am the Movie at a time when the Fat Wreck Chords sound was starting to be supplanted by a wider variety of fastrawk styles, and its modern look and feel immediately set the group apart from a majority of the Warped Tour crowd. This tour celebrates the 10th anniversary of ’05 sophomore effort Commit This to Memory, considered by many to be the group’s high-water mark. They’re supported by a brace of equally melodic outfits – fellow Midwestern (and similarly long-running) act The Spill Canvas and younger Northeastern emo (nemo?) group Sorority Noise. Teacher Teacher, Flexxehawke You likely know Sugar Bear for his stellar groove jams at various watering holes around downtown St. Pete. But did you know the DJ otherwise known as Seth Gilbert is also a drummer, in a band? I bet not. Teacher Teacher is led by guitarist/singer Allen Winkle, features Trey Conner on bass, and their sound according to Gilbert is “no frills, all thrills” rock n’ roll. Also on the bill is Flexxehawke, featuring former members of the Dumbwaiters and legendary Gainesville outfit Meringue making Southern-fried garage sounds that edge into vintage psych and ‘90s-era indie rock territories in tracks like “I Am the Eagle” and “Degobah Mémoires.” (The Bends, St. Petersburg) —Leilani Polk
Aaron Gillespie with William Beckett, Nathan Hussey, Lauren Rotz Tonight’s headliner is probably best known for his stint as drummer for cult-beloved sort-of-local postcore outfit Underoath, but he’s also the frontman for The Almost, a more melody-based act the gives a clearer impression of what tonight’s solo gig might sound like. He’s here along with The Academy Is… singer William Beckett (Chicago), Nathan Hussey of All Get Out (points south), and Palm Harbor singer-songwriter Lauren Rotz. Should be an interesting time. Quit (reunion) with Radon (reunion), The Tim Version People have been crapping their pants in anticipation of this show for several months now, and with good reason — the two headliners are legends for helping build and define the punk scenes in their respective Florida cities more than a decade ago. Quit originally hailed from the Miami area, though former members have moved to other places such as Gainesville, while Radon started up in that city from the jump, and was one of iconic G-ville label No Idea’s marquee hometown acts. Add the passionate, overdriven Americana-influenced punk of Tampa’s own Tim Version, and you’ve got a show with the potential to be something that’s talked about for years to come. Expect a sellout at the door. (Crowbar, Ybor City) —SH
Ariana Grande with Prince Royce The elfin Nickelodeon star-turned-pop princess may no longer be facing criminal mischief charges for unauthorized doughnut licking (I can’t make this shit up), but she’s definitely guilty of churning out sticky Billboard charting tunes with noteworthy guests –“Problems” (Iggy Azalea), “Break Free” (Zedd), “Love Me Harder” (The Weeknd) and Grammy-nominated “Bang Bang” (Nicki Minaj and Jessie J) among them. Grande hits town on her first international headlining tour behind second and latest album, My Everything. (Amalie Arena, Tampa) —LP
