The rumors that have been swirling around for the past several months have finally take root: Thx Mgmt founder Joe D'Acunto is joining Brokenmold Entertainment's Phil Benito and Sean O'Brien as an equal partner, and all three will now be working together to host events and bring rad indie sounds to town under the Brokenmold umbrella. "It's official," O'Brien told CL today.
Via Thx Mgmt, D’Acunto has made a huge impact on the local music scene with the infamous July 4th holiday-spurred Hot Dog Party, the (late) Summer Jam festival, the ongoing monthly outdoor concert series, Rock the Park, and a whole mess of shows (50-plus) in between. Brokenmold's powerful pair, in turn, have complemented his efforts with their own string of noteworthy affairs, booking talent for events ranging from Gasparilla Music Festival to the late Antiwarpt and current Plan B Block Party, and presenting upwards of 70 shows a year. Their combined forces are sure to make the Bay an even more vital and exciting place to be. "It was just a natural fit," O'Brien explained. "We get along, we share alot of the same ideas about music and how to make the scene better. We see each other a couple times a week anyway, and we've co-promoted shows already. We decided we might as well work together and maximize each others' potential."
Amid the re-branding and web amp-up that's set to occur over the summer, every show will now feature more exclusive merch and posters designed by local artists. New events are already on the way — a Friday and Saturday night music series for Wicked ‘Wiches in SoHo, featuring locals like Ella Jet, John Nowicki and Rich Whitely, and the already-announced Reel Deal Thursday monthly movie n' live music series at Crowbar in Ybor City — and other TBA happs are currently in the works.
