A look at three noteworthy concerts happening this Wed., May 13.

Jason Isbell I bet guitar-slinging singer-songwriter Jason Isbell gets tired of being labeled as the ‘Drive-By Truckers former,’ but it’s the easiest way to prove his pedigree without having to cite his myriad accomplishments. That band likely scored him some of his most loyal fans once he set out to do the solo thing in 2007. Eight years and more fans later, the alt country rocker has delivered four full-lengths (the last was critically-acclaimed Southeastern in 2013) and a fresh 2015 digital EP with wife Amanda Shires, Sea Songs, which features covers of Warren Zevon’s “Mutineer” and Lykke Li’s “I Follow Rivers.” (Capitol Theatre, Clearwater)

Needtobreathe with Ben Rector, Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors, Colony House Needtobreathe represents Christian rock at its finest – or so the people who like Christian rock and Needtobreathe will tell you. However, the Southern roots-driving quartet from South Carolina does have the distinction of crossing over from Christian to mainstream charts despite the blatant religious overtones in their lyrics, ala 2014 fifth and latest studio album Rivers of the Wasteland, which reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200 (the refrain of the stirring title track is “If God is on my side, who can be against me?”) This tour finds warm-up from three Nashville area artists, pop rock singer-songwriter Ben Rector, alt rocker Drew Holcomb and indie rock trio Colony House. (Jannus Live, St. Petersburg)

Minus the Bear with Into It. Over It. Excluding Lost Loves– a career-spanning collection of rarities and previously unreleased tracks that dropped last year – we haven’t seen much in the way of new material from Minus the Bear. But Seattle’s favorite indie rock experimenters with math and progressive tendencies haven’t been to town in a few years, are known for staging epic live performances, and MTB fans are nothing if not loyal – the last date at The Ritz with Circa Survive was a sell-out – so likely this’ll draw a respectable Hump Day crowd, especially with the emo revivalist Evan Thomas Weiss aka Into It. Over It., warming the stage. (State Theatre, St. Petersburg)
