A far cry from your tired movie night, Reel Deal offers local folks with two different types of watching opportunities — a themed double feature, or a screening directly followed by a set of music taken from the film's soundtrack (or inspired by it) by artists that, so far, include Have Gun, Will Travel, Acho Brother, and Gerald Perez of Maximino, Thee Wilt Chamberlain and Levek fame, among others. As a bonus, local poster artists will create their trademark versions of the movie's poster, with a limited number screen-printed and sold on a first come, first serve basis.
Each event kicks off with a movie presented in the Crowbar patio, replete with an impromptu concession stand. According to the release, "Costumes will not be be required, but they will be rewarded." Doors at 7 p.m., screening at 7:15 p.m., admission is $5-$10 depending on the show, and any scheduled music follows 15 minutes after the film is done. Here's the schedule for the first six installments:
July 23: Purple Rain
With music by Orlando's Gerald Perez (Maximino, Thee Wilt Chamberlain, Levek), who is putting together a group to transform into Prince & the Revolution and play the soundtrack to Purple Rain.
August 13: The Life Aquatic
Acho Brother aka Hector Mayoral aka Seu Jorge performs the David Bowie songs from the movie, in Portuguese.
September 10: Over the Edge
A New Granada Records movie night featuring the film that inspired the label/promo company's name and logo, with performances by New Granada bands who inject songs from the soundtrack throughout their sets.
October 22: The Lost Boys/Fright Night
A 1980's horror movie double feature.
November 19: The Last Waltz
Have Gun Will Travel assumes the role of The Band, and are joined by special TBA guest musicians as they recreate the iconic concert doc.
December 17: Back to the Future
