Three months after fans funded the final stages of an Underoath band documentary, the Tampa-based post-hardcore outfit is repaying them by hosting a hometown world premiere in advance of the film’s May 1 release.

“It’s been two years of us trying to figure out how the heck this movie is gonna come out,” keyboardist Christopher Dudley explained in a back story video.

The film documents the band’s 12-stop 2013 farewell tour and will attempt to answer any lingering questions about the rise and demise of the Grammy-nominated group that released seven studio LPs and a pair of live albums all while gaining fans from every corner of the globe. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Dudley, guitarists Tim McTague and James Smith, and bassist Grant Brandell that will be taped for the Bad Christian Podcast.

"I'm really excited to be there in person and actually get to experience our fans reactions to the film. Unlike album releases you rarely get that first response in real time let alone talk about it and answer questions face to face," Brandell, 33, told CL in a message. "I'm stoked for the good, the bad and everything in between that comes with this project."

Frontman Spencer Chamberlain is even more direct. “I tear up when I watch it every time,” Chamberlain said in the trailer. “I get stoked and I get sad.”

Get sad with him tomorrow (Thurs., April 30), at State Theatre (687 Central Ave., St. Pete). Tickets are $10 via Ticketmaster, doors open at 6:30 p.m.. Watch the new trailer and a backstory video below. Order the film via Merchline.
